Medcomp Pro Fuse CT Port

Subcutaneous venous ports are rapidly becoming the method of choice for venous access for patients requiring long term intravenous therapy. Within the last two years there have been several power injectable ports launched that allow the high flow rates used in modern multislice CT.

The insertion of a Powerport takes exactly the same time as for the Slimport, and due to the subcutaneous position I favour, is easy to identify for needle cannulation. Patients are very satisfied with the port and grateful for the reduced numbers of IV cannulae needed for intravenous contrast injections.

We have found the Cook Medical advance 18LP balloons to be very effective and user friendly.  The double lumen over-the-wire design is excellent at crossing tight stenoses and tracks easily.

  • I recently visited the Western Vascular Symposium in Galway Ireland. This was a high quality scientific vascular meeting over 3 days. The meeting was well attended predominantly by Irish and US vascular surgeons. There were some interesting presentations on EVAR, TEVAR, robotic assisted intervention and closure devices amongst others. Its good to see that the vascular surgeons are also now moving to a percutaneous approach and closure devices, rather than cut-down for EVAR!  more

from shine921 for Mac-Loc catheter

posted by shine921 on 22 April 2009 20:24:52
I use both catheters (from Boston and Cook). In my experience, the Mac-Loc catheter slides easier along the track, the 0.018 guidewire (included in the set) doesn't kink, but the locking arm is quite hard to be pushed down. The major disadvantage of Boston's nephrostomy set is that the dilator can be easier teared on the tip while passing through tissues. On the other hand, the Chiba needle included on Boston's set is better visualized on ultrasound than the one of Cook's set.

from phil for Bard PowerPort

Not sure why Tenapp is having problems. I have put in at least 15 of these with no problem with the peelaway sheath which seems no different to any other valved peelaway. Can you be more specific/show some images of what the problem is ? Take a look at our video of port insertion in the training section and see how we peelaway the sheath. Are you doing something differently ?
