Balt have recently modified the design with a longer crimping tube on the thread. The metal is thinner and easier to crimp with forceps.

The device is certainly quick and easy to use, but be careful as the cylinder takes a lot of force to crimp fully onto the thread. It is essential to use the part of the forceps closest to the hinge to get enough force to do this with standard artery forceps. We could debate for a long time the pros and cons of using T fasteners. I always use them as I primarily insert button gastrostomy tubes and a good gastropexy is essential for this procedure. Early tube dislodgement in the absence of gastropexy can cause severe peritonitis or worse.
